There is no home remedy to lighten the skin, other than to prevent it from darkening in the first place by religiously staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen at ALL times. To lighten skin, you need to use a solution called Hydroquinone. This is sold over the counter in a 2% strength and takes a few months to begin working. You'll see a gradual change in freckles, sun spots and hper-pigmentation. It also comes in a 4% strenth which is available only by prescription. Results begin in about a month. I use it and it made me look noticeably younger. People have commented that I have beautiful skin, not something I'd ever heard before. A good system to try is Obagi skincare, which has Retin A, 4% Hydroquinone, 6% AHA and a very strong antioxidant serum for day.
* Eat nutritious food rich in antioxidants. They help slow the aging process of your skin making you look younger. * Take good care of your body. Observe good hygiene. When washing your face, don’t use soaps that might be irritating to your skin. When drying your face, don’t rub, pat it dry instead. * Don’t sleep with makeup still all over your face. Once you get home, wash your face with a mild soap or you can use a makeup liquid remover. Afterwards, apply your daily moisturizing cream. * As much as possible, cut down using makeup. If you are just going out for the groceries, you don’t need to wear heavy makeup. Remember, using these products would result to clogging your pores. This would result to the buildup of oils and dirt.
